Paul Newell is an NHS Analyst by day, but his passion outside of work is Powerlifting.

This is a strength sport consisting of three events: the bench press, the squat, the deadlift and this resembles the sport of Olympic weightlifting, as both disciplines involve lifting weights in three attempts.

Paul started training seriously in 1998 and within two years became the British under-23 Champion. He is the current British Powerlifting Champion (100kg weight class) and has twice been the runner up at the World Powerlifting Championships and is the two time British record holder in the squat lift.

Paul’s best lifts to date are: Squat – 400kg (63 stone), Bench Press – 215kg (34 stone) and Deadlift – 305kg (48 stone).

RCS have proudly supported Paul for seven years, which has helped him represent Great Britain all over the World, including USA, Austria, Germany and Belgium.

Our recent funding has enabled Paul to compete in the World Championships, being held in Mikkeli (Finland) in November and Paul is overjoyed by the support shown to him by all the staff at RCS. “The sport of powerlifting receives no official funding and without the sponsorship of Regular Cleaning Services there is absolutely no way I could have gone onto represent Great Britain at 7 World Championships,” said Paul.

“The support of Regular Cleaning Services is a vital part of my preparations and I’d like to thank them all for their continued support.”
