A Successful Day at the Champions League Charity Football Tournament.

The results of the Regular Cleaning Champions League tournament are in. We’re thrilled to announce that the tournament raised an incredible £2,104 for our charity partners at St Mungo’s, a charity doing amazing work to help those experiencing homelessness.

Twelve teams took part, made up of Regular Cleaning colleagues, as well as teams from our service partners and clients, including Landsec, BACB, Mayflower, One Stratford Place. Following the success of last year’s football fundraiser, the event was a brilliant way to get so many different organisations together, and provided the perfect opportunity for collaboration and strengthening partnerships for a brilliant cause.

Our 12 teams were: BACB, Mayflower, Regular Cleaning FC, RC Rovers, Royal Borough Greenwich FC, Landsec All-stars, Aspire FC, One Stratford Place, Team Carlos 1, Team Carlos 2, Team Christian 1, Team Christian 2.

So, let’s have a look at how the tournament played out:

Final Score: Regular Cleaning FC 2-1 RGB FC

Semi-Finalist Results: Aspire FC Wins

Congratulations to Team Carlos 1 and Aspire FC for reaching the semi-finals. After a close match, Aspire FC came out on top with a 2-1 victory, securing the semi-finalist prize.

Final Score: Aspire FC 2-1 Team Carlos 1

Cup Final Results: BACB Wins

The final match saw a showdown between BACB and Mayflower FC. Both teams played a remarkable game, but in the end, BACB claimed victory in a 4-3 match, and was crowned the Regular Cleaning Champions League Cup winners for 2024.

Final Score: BACB 4-3 Mayflower FC

What’s Next?

A massive thank you goes out to everyone who attended, donated, and contributed to the success of this event. It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our organisers, or those that participated, supported, and cheered. Everyone socialised, played some great football and the support was fantastic. The amazing support has helped us raise vital funds for St Mungo’s, and we look forward to making next year’s event even bigger and better.

If you’d like to continue supporting this great cause, our donation page is still open here. Congratulations to the official RC champions league cup winners BACB, until next year!

Encouraging our clients to volunteer in our social value programme

July 12, 2024 by Lizzie Hill Leave a Comment

A look at how client involvement in social value can benefit business.

A focus on social value is not just a responsibility, but a testament to a company’s commitment to community welfare. Our clients are setting the bar high by actively engaging in our volunteering days, charity events, and social value initiatives. This case study will look at how we create client collaboration in our social value events in order to support our resource requirements as we grow. Client involvement supports local communities, but also contributes to their own social value ambitions and impact.

Background

We have always had a culture of creating social value since the business was started, and there has recently been a sharpening of focus in this activity and a drive to do more. We have therefore needed to find a greater number of volunteers in order to support the growing number of events. A recent emphasis has been on client collaboration. This provides opportunities for our clients to increase their social value contribution and build partnerships, while supporting our communities and creating better places for all.

In collaboration with St Mungo’s, we recently organised a pamper event for International Women’s Day in March 2024. This was an event for those that use the St Mungo’s service and required female volunteers. We received huge support from our client JLL at 240 Blackfriars with several volunteers coming along on the day. The success of the event showed us how impactful client involvement in social value can be. Collaboration across organisations forms a wider sense of community, and it makes events like this truly inspiring.

The Challenge

Initially, our biggest challenge was that we didn’t have established partnerships that provided us with the level of volunteering opportunities we desired. Since partnering with St Mungo’s, we have regular opportunities to make a real difference.

Since entering this partnership, the engagement from our own colleagues has been overwhelming and it quickly became clear that the desire to get involved was there. As our volunteering resource requirements grew, we saw an opportunity to engage across clients and service partners in order to meet the growing needs of our social impact programme.

We knew that our clients wanted to do something positive, and so we needed to find ways to achieve this collaboratively. Being a homelessness charity, the work of St Mungo’s can impact our clients who may witness homelessness in their areas and this seemed a wonderful opportunity to relate back to the local environment.

The types of events volunteers are needed for can vary meaning that a diverse range of talent and ability is often required. These can include gardening days, cooking events, teaching classes, pampering events, employment fairs, and painting and decorating.

Solution

The solution was to recruit volunteers from key clients and service partners to help. To begin, we needed to engage clients and let them know that by working with us, these social value opportunities were available to them. Our focus became communicating the opportunities in a way that raises awareness and inspires involvement, and translate this into tangible participation.

We have adapted how we approach social impact and now look to ensure we’re collaborating with our clients, their service partners alongside our service partners to bring the greatest impact.

Gemma Bowers, Chief People & Culture Officer

This meant not only in capturing and communicating opportunities, but also highlighting the key benefits a client gains from taking part. Some clients sought to understand the difference their people had on these events and how their involvement impacted social value, and we identified the need for comprehensive communication channels and engagement strategies to address this challenge. Leveraging our network and resources, we embarked on a journey to streamline our volunteering initiatives and make them more accessible to clients.

There has since been an active effort to highlight the types of initiatives we have to offer, and articulate the impact that these have on our communities. In doing this, we can provide clarity on how client participation contributes to this, and shed light on the benefits of client participation.

This includes:
  • How a culture of active involvement and collaboration makes our social value initiatives more successful and helpful to our communities.
  • That our initiatives can benefit our clients by contributing to their social value targets.
  • The ways that client involvement in charity events improves collaboration and helps to create a stronger sense of partnership.
  • Homelessness is something that we all witness frequently and that through collaboration, we can do something positive and really make a difference.
  • That by gaining clients and service partners as volunteers, we are able to offer a wider range of skills and abilities to our charity partners.

A colleague from our client JLL told us that our social value events foster a sense of belonging and promote teamwork, and helps their team and occupiers to develop new skills and knowledge.

Results
St Mungo's Pamper Event

We always strive to remember that the aim of all these events is not merely participation, but creating a lasting impact on our communities. With a more diverse range of skills, and an obvious collaborative spirit, this fosters and conveys a sense of community and support.

Through planning and execution, we have successfully engaged our clients in meaningful volunteering activities. This includes a St Mungo’s ‘Pamper Day’ collaborating with JLL colleagues at 240 Blackfriars, which

required multiple people to attend and provide spa treats at a St Mungo’s service.

Events like this increase awareness of the charities themselves and the issues that their work focuses on, and demonstrates we can be deliver more through working closely with clients and service partners. There is real joy and reward to be had while giving back and witnessing the tangible benefits to organisations like St Mungo’s and the communities they serve and seeing first-hand the impact of their contribution.

When asked why social value involvement is important to JLL at 240 Blackfriars, and what motivates the team to get involved, their Community Lead told us “Social value is important to us because we believe in building community within the organisation. Getting involved in a rewarding and fulfilling experience”.

By facilitating these volunteering opportunities and providing support every step along the way, we try and ensure that clients are not only aware, but are also enthusiastic participants of social value initiatives.

Looking Ahead

By addressing challenges, fostering understanding, and actively engaging clients, we have established a way to provide for meaningful collaboration and community impact.

We will continue to introduce opportunities that can inspire clients to get involved in volunteering. Through involvement in these social value opportunities, our clients can support their communities while contributing to their own social value ambitions.

Our Recent St Mungo’s Digital Inclusion Workshop

April 11, 2024 by Lizzie Hill Leave a Comment

We’re supporting the St Mungo’s Digital Inclusion Programme.

St Mungo’s provide support to those experiencing or at risk of homelessness on many levels. This includes wellbeing support, accommodation, and employability support, as well as training to enhance professional and personal skills. The St Mungo’s Digital Inclusion Workshops are training classes offered to clients of the service which can develop their digital skills and improve their digital confidence.

These workshops cover several topics, including online safety & etiquette, email communication, computer basics, googles docs & other digital development skills. These workshops related to digital skills and IT, giving some of our teams a space to share their professional knowledge.

Workshops

Members of our Commercial Team and Marketing Team recently ran two workshops on IT skills and Social Media. This gave our colleagues the opportunity to share their expertise with those looking to learn or improve their digital skills.

Taking place at a St Mungo’s Community Hub, the Social Media Workshop covered the intricacies of different social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LInkedin and Tik Tok. Over two hours, our colleagues went through everything from creating a profile and navigating it, to how to get the most out of social media and use it professionally. This had a brilliant turn out with St Mungo’s clients joining in person and online. Members of our Commercial Team also recently ran a workshop on IT skills. This covered a range of topics related to the basics of using a computer, using the internet, and sending files.

Digital Inclusion Workshop

We’re so proud that our partnership lets us share our knowledge and expertise with the clients of the service. Our first Digital Inclusion Workshop was run by members of our Marketing and People teams last year. This was an Email Workshop, and a brilliant introduction to this initiative. We’re thrilled that these classes let us go past fundraising and volunteering to offer practical help to the homelessness charity.

Looking to the future of our partnership, we hope to continue running these in collaboration with the St Mungo’s Digital Inclusion Workshop programme.

Christmas at Regular Cleaning

December 22, 2023 by Lizzie Hill Leave a Comment

Over the festive period, we’ve been busier than normal giving back to our communities to create better places.

December has been filled with plenty of activity at Regular Cleaning. In the countdown to Christmas, we’ve been out and about delivering some festive joy to our charity partners and communities. Our teams actively participate in creating social value throughout the year with activities aimed at spreading joy and supporting those in need. Thank you to all our colleagues that have taken the time to volunteer with us this, and every month, in what has been a truly remarkable year for social value.

Our calendar has been packed with events aimed at making a meaningful difference. From cooking up Christmas meals, donating gifts, decorating spaces and hosting crafty workshops, the team has been busy engaging with communities and charitable organisations across the city.

Christmas Carol Concert
St Mungo’s

At the heart of our Christmas activity sits our partnership with the homelessness charity, St Mungo’s. They provide support to those that are experiencing or at risk of homelessness across the country. December can be especially tough for people, making the work of St Mungo’s especially crucial in the festive season.

Kicking off our Christmas activity, we collaborated with St Mungo’s for their Christmas Carol Concert on 4th December. We donated a Christmas tree through Planteria, adding festive cheer to the event. This event was headlined by a wonderful choir, a group of individuals, of whom many have been supported by St Mungo’s services.

Decorations

Other St Mungo’s activity has spanned across the month, with events tailored to the unique needs of each location. These have included arts and crafts days with Christmas card making and wreath making workshops to get clients together. We have donated Christmas trees and decorations to services across London, providing festive spaces for these workshops to take place.

Other events have included Christmas meals, with our volunteers buying ingredients to prepare, cook and serve to St Mungo’s clients and staff. These have proved a brilliant way to get clients together in a social and festive environment. We’ve seen incredible client engagement with our Christmas activity, with volunteers from JLL, Bellrock, and CBRE all taking part.

Throughout the month we’ve also had St Mungo’s activity happening from our Service Support Centre. This has included donating gifts that are wrapped up and ready to be delivered around the city, as well as a series of fundraising events to get colleagues in the Christmas spirit. Donations can be made through our St Mungo’s Giving Page.

We proudly supported Bank of Things again this Christmas. Run by Lewisham Local, this programme provides vital resources and gifts for vulnerable young people over the festive season. Our support came in the form of gift donations, wrapped up by our volunteers for young people aged 11 to 25 living across Lewisham.

We also purchased 300 reusable sustainable tote bags and tubs of chocolates to donate to Bank of Things. These go towards Lewisham’s young people who otherwise wouldn’t receive a gift.

Christmas at the Regular Cleaning Office

A variety of activities and events have been happening in our Service Support Centre to create a fun and social environment over the festive period. These activities have fostered an atmosphere of generosity, giving and collaboration, while facilitating avenues for fundraising and involvement from across the company. These have included:

  • Christmas Jumper Week
  • Regular Cleaning Bake Off, Christmas Edition with prizes
  • Find the “Gonk” on Regular Rewards platform
  • Raffle – Win a M&S Hamper, Candle or Chocolates
  • Decorate the Bauble, with prizes for the best
  • Silent Auction to Win 1 Days Holiday
  • 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar with tips, activities and more

In line with their ethos of continuous giving, Regular Cleaning also extended support to the Wessex’s Take a Tag campaign, contributing £150 worth of gifts for victims of Domestic Abuse.

Putting People First

Each year, we strive to do what we can for our communities over the festive season. While a time of celebration for some, we know that for others it can be a truly challenging and tough period. Our Christmas social value activity brings joy to numerous communities, while strengthening the bond amongst employees, fostering a culture of compassion and unity:

  • Christmas trees, decorations and food donated = £3,500+
  • Number of events and activities – 11
  • Number of volunteers – 52
  • Number of clients who joined us – 14
  • Hours volunteered – 177
  • Number of St Mungo’s clients impacted – 198
  • Potatoes peeled for Christmas lunches – 30 KG!!!!!

In the true spirit of the season, our colleagues exemplify how small acts of kindness and collective efforts can make a substantial impact, leaving a warm and lasting impression on all those less fortunate. Thank you again to all colleagues for helping to make Christmas at Regular Cleaning so special. It’s our amazing team’s support that lets us continue to create better places.

Our Commitment to Fundraising for St Mungo’s

November 10, 2023 by Lizzie Hill Leave a Comment

Since joining forces with St Mungo’s, we’ve led an amalgamation of work to support ending homelessness. This has included volunteering, training, collaborative events, but also and crucially, fundraising. To continue to provide their much-needed services and put an end to homelessness, vital funds are needed. This makes fundraising for St Mungo’s an important part of our partnership.

We’ve committed to raising £5000 for St Mungo’s this year through donations, and are a third of the way there since announcing our partnership in July.

While we believe that giving our time and expertise to our charity partner is invaluable, it’s so important to raise sufficient funds that can really help and make a difference. These often go towards vital resources and services that provide support and help people to move away from rough sleeping.

ArcelorMittal Orbit Abseil

We’ve been thinking outside of the box in terms of fundraising events. Our brave and inspiring teams have gone above and beyond to raise money, including abseiling off of the ArcelorMittal Orbit in London from 262ft. Our colleagues tackled the challenge head-on on 2nd June 2023, raising £920 from this event alone.

Take the Lead

Our August challenge, ‘Take the Lead’ saw some of our Regular Cleaning mascots take on the distance of a sponsored marathon (26 miles) or an ultra-marathon (50 miles) throughout the month of August. Pixie alone (left) raised £125, earning a St Mungo’s bandana to wear on walks.

Football Event

Our charity football game on 15th September, saw twelve teams taking part in a tournament to raise money and awareness for the homelessness charity. This event was a huge success, with many of our clients and partners forming teams to collaboratively support this cause.

Events like this one not only raise funds to support homelessness, but also raise awareness. Collaborative events like this one inspire conversations and knowledge sharing around the issues surrounding homlessness in the UK. This can lead to even more people getting involved and working together to end rough sleeping.

Upcoming Events

We’ve got a variety of projects and events planned for the Christmas period to continue our commitment to fundraising for St Mungo’s. Since 2018, we have committed to volunteering and fundraising events over the period.

Some of the events planned this year include cooking meals, decorating some of St Mungo’s services and a Christmas gift appeal to give our colleagues the chance to donate gifts that we’ve wrapped up together. To start the new year right, we also have a London Winter Walk planned in January to bring our fundraising efforts straight into 2024.
